Clarification on Funding Projection Differences on Juniorlogs vs MOE projections

393 views 0 January 16, 2026 Updated on February 22, 2026 Juniorlogs Team

Following our recent discussion with the Ministry of Education (MoE), we wanted to provide some clarity around the differences some services noticed between Juniorlogs’ funding projections and the MoE’s projections.

Why the Numbers Were Different

Juniorlogs calculates funding projections using the information you have entered into the system — your actual enrolments and bookings, including future bookings. This approach gives centres a forward-looking view, helping you anticipate future funding based on expected enrolments.
The MoE, however, uses a different method.
MoE’s projections are based solely on:
  • the actual funded hours submitted in your latest RS7 return
  • the actual number of days your service operated
  • a calculation of the average hours per day (rounded up)
  • multiplied by the advance-funded days for the upcoming period
Importantly, MoE does not include future enrolments or bookings when calculating advance funding simply because they do not have that data available with them.
Because of these different methods, your Juniorlogs projections may show higher or lower figures compared to the MoE’s calculations — especially if there are children joining or leaving between periods.

Is Your Juniorlogs Projection Still Valid?

Absolutely.
Our projections remain useful because they reflect the dynamic changes in your upcoming rolls, giving you a more realistic estimate for budgeting and planning. However, the MoE’s projection will always be based on historic data only, which is why differences can occur.

New Improvement in Juniorlogs!

In light of this, and to give you greater transparency and control, we are introducing a new option within Funding Projections:

Now you will be able to choose which projection method to use:
  1. MoE Method (Average-Based):
Uses the same calculation method the Ministry uses for advance funding.
  2. Juniorlogs Method (Actual-Based):
Uses your real-time enrolments and bookings, including future changes.
This ensures you can select the approach that best suits your planning needs.
